The Building of Mothopong Creche (2018)
Project Ithuta, Limpopo, South Africa
The video showcases the work of students from the University of Nottingham Architecture School building a creche in rural South Africa.
Filming was conducted by myself and the students over the course of the project. I attempted to give the viewer a ‘realistic’ taste of the experience from the students perspective. The editing attempts to translate the energy of the entire project into an intense two minutes where the viewer in overloaded with visual information.
Broken Camera Project (2014-)
Nottingham, Paris, Derbyshire
The digital camera used for this project has a faulty light sensor which
gives each image unique and unpredictable characteristics. The usual
control a photographer would expect is taken away by uncertainties
surrounding the image focus, colour, and exposure. The resulting
photographs hold random serendipitous qualities dictated by the camera’s
interpenetration of the scene.
Mothopong Creche (2018)
Project Ithuta, Limpopo, South Africa
Photos showing the building in its finished state before the handover ceremony. The team can be seen cleaning the facade ahead of welcoming the guests.
Ithuta is the eight créche design/build studio project in South Africa undertaken by the University of Nottingham Department of Architecture and Built Environment. Each year a volunteer team of 2nd year BArch students design a nursery school for a selected village, raise the funds for its construction and then travel to Africa to build it.

Project Ithuta, Limpopo, South Africa
A selection of my favorite photos that I took in snatched moments following the construction of the creche. The photos span from start to finish ( approx 300).

Revisiting Project Tshela (2018)
Rethusegile Creche, Limpopo, South Africa
Photos were taken during a spontaneous revisit to Project Tshela two years after the handover date. The building has since been occupied and adopted into the village. The facade has been re-painted and secured (with the addition of a matching security grill).
